The first Earth Day on April 22, 1970, activated 20 million Americans from all walks of life and is widely credited with launching the modern environmental movement. The passage of the landmark Clean Air Act, Clean Water Act, Endangered Species Act and many other groundbreaking environmental laws soon followed. Twenty years later, Earth Day went global, mobilizing 200 million people in 141 countries and lifting environmental issues onto the world stage. More than 1 billion people now participate in Earth Day activities each year, making it the largest civic observance in the world.

As promised, I did a bunch more experimenting with the Marshall’s colored pencils! While my finished piece isn’t quite ready for you guys yet, I can assure you that the basic colored pencils performed just as well, if not better, than the metallics I experimented with over the weekend.
The colors are rich and well pigmented, and the leads hold the same consistency and strength as the metallics. Once again, I haven’t had to sharpen them yet but I can still get the fine details!
When it comes to color range, our stock seems to be leaning more towards the cooler side of the spectrum. We have many many blues and greens, but fewer shades of red and yellow. However to make up for that, all of the colors blend together incredibly well to create your own infinite color spectrum.
As far as the oil-based pigment properties, it’s really cool! I believe it really steps up the blending capabilities of these pencils. If used with Marlene on a canvas like the ready-to-color ones we sell in our store, it creates a beautiful watercolor effect. You can achieve a similar effect using linseed oil or or paint thinner. Any medium intended for oil paints can feasibly be combined with these pencils to create a number of stunning effects.
However, I HIGHLY recommend keeping these experiments to canvas only and do not use them on paper. Oil bases rarely ever soak in to canvas, but the fibers of paper suck it up instantly and can leave you with an awful oily mess.
These Marshall’s colored pencils have absolutely blown me away. I am incredibly impressed with the quality of a product from a brand that I had honestly never heard of before I started working at OmegaBrandess. You can find our full range of Marshall’s products over in the OmegaBrandess webstore!
